As President of AEC International, Gary Newell brings over 35 years of real estate experience. Professionally, he has been involved in expert testimony, conflict resolution and negotiations. As a leader, he has the ability to get things done while creating a positive work environment for clients and staff alike. Gary believes success is achieved by thinking big and surrounding oneself with talented people.

His strategic vision for AEC has 4 pillars. They are:

Gary’s greatest professional accomplishment has been the mentorship of several young people to become business leaders in the Property Tax field and cheering them on to achieve great results.

Bob Langlois is Managing Director and provides overall direction and leadership for key operational areas of our business. A passion for ideas and strong appetite for tackling change head-on define Bob’s character. He is always up for a challenge and thrives in pressure situations that call for ideas to be put into action – in particular where the identified risk or danger calls for a non-traditional solution. Although not a technology geek by definition, Bob is fascinated with the ideas and opportunities that technological change represents and frequently embraces the chance to utilize technology to do things bigger, better and faster.

A unique ability to size up and translate complex situations enables Bob to create and manage environments from which he and others can make important decisions. His ability to support decision-making process for himself and others enables Bob to operate from a confidence level that reduces the risk often associated with new ventures or ideas.

In an industry mired in traditional approaches, timelines and processes, Bob’s demeanor and ‘let’s get going ‘ attitude bring a refreshing approach where the unconventional and un-tried get tested and applied with great consistency.

Rob oversees AEC’s operations and activities in Western Canada and sets the strategic tone for how we address and face challenges posed to our clients. Rob is pre-wired to take action and remedy problems that are presented as obstacles. There is no fear of tackling issues or facing difficult situations that are new and/or that call out for a different approach that may have worked in the past.

There is a no-nonsense approach to how Rob addresses dangers and he is very capable at developing and applying solutions across a variety of industry sectors. Rob’s confidence in supporting clients across multi-disciplines is supported by his ability to think clearly about the future and not be rooted in traditional, old-school means and methods. This is best evidenced by Rob’s leadership in developing AEC’s role as a pioneer in the Advanced Consultation Process (ACP) that has been effectively rolled out recently in Calgary, AB.

One word… Driven. Lynne’s energy and desire to support AEC’s clients provides the perfect foundation for her role as Director of Client Services. On a day-to-day basis, Lynne works with our Project Management teams to set, deliver upon and exceed the expectations that we develop with our clients. Lynne’s unique mix of public and private sector experience have equipped her with the knowledge and expertise to identify and outline solutions for our clients where the valuation issues and/or diversity of the portfolio require a holistic approach. Lynne has established the high watermark for AEC’s Information Principle ™ which bestows the virtues of managing the flow of information in order to accelerate our collective ability to provide meaningful advice and deliver above-average results.

Lynne sets a very high standard for both herself and our Project Management teams, leading by example with a dedication and strong discipline that is necessary to delivere the required results in an increasingly demanding environment.

In her twenty-plus years of realty tax experience, Lynne has been exposed to a host of clients, across all industry sectors and developed an effective compass which is used to steer our clients clear of dangers. Our clients view her as a steady influence supporting their business needs and providing required confidence in a world where the cost of doing business continually faces upward pressure.

Charles is an appraiser’s appraiser. With a propensity to see patterns amidst chaos, Charles's aptitude and natural curiosity for seeking out more information enables him to develop, analyze and eventually cull options to arrive at an appropriate strategy for the valuation challenge at hand.

Charles is extremely committed to the profession of Appraisal and has invested countless hours in developing both as a professional personally, as well as supporting the advancement and learning of the appraisal community domestically and aboard.

The process of learning fascinates Charles. His primary topic of interest is valuation, seconded by the wonders of technology and how these tools can be plugged into today’s changing world. The journey of learning keeps Charles engaged and alive. In his day-to-day activities at AEC, Charles has become well-entrenched in the various sectors of Canada’s resource economy and applies his learning to support the needs of our clients, particularly in the forest products sector.

Gerry is the consummate team leader who excels at balancing the needs of his clients, their advisors and the delivery efforts of the AEC team. As someone that seeks to include others, Gerry has a wide sphere of influence that he has developed within his professional career. Gerry’s unique ability to include others, in order that everyone can benefit from belonging to the group, has a multiplier effect. The team is left with higher confidence and/or increased capacity. 

In managing, attracting and supporting members from various backgrounds,Gerry finds a way to deliver consensus and harmony while minimizing or eliminating the negative effect of conflict. The conversation and ultimate solutions engineered by Gerry support the notion that we are ‘all in the same boat’ and the focus always comes back to practical, down-to-earth strategies that recognize the need to embrace common ground while setting aside differences.

The various moving parts that make up Gerry’s group put him in the role of conductor where he juggles and balances many variables and excels at arranging, re-arranging and ultimately providing a solution that represents the most productive configuration possible. While not a stranger to confusion and complex situations, Gerry is adept at jumping in to seek new options, identify paths of least resistance and aligning various interests to present a better way to reach the desired outcome.

As Vice President of Business Development at AEC, Tim’s role encompasses leading our national business development efforts and providing leadership and management responsibilities for our Business Development team.

Tim brings over twenty years of consulting, sales, and business development experience in the tax industry. Prior to AEC, he was a senior member of a tax consulting firm and a principal with Danaher and Associates Inc. where his responsibilities  included implementing the corporate mission statement and plan, creating the marketing and sales strategies and managing the consulting and administrative divisions of the companies.

His focus at AEC is to leverage his sales and leadership experience in the industry in order to provide an unsurpassed client experience. Tim is a graduate of Carleton University and is a member of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and Invest Ottawa.

Louis is a thinker whose words and actions are chosen carefully and always reflect an understanding of how things are connected. Louis’ role in managing AEC’s business affairs in Quebec and Atlantic Canada represents an important yet confusing world for most of our clients. His ability to make the Quebec connection for his peers, colleagues and our clients represents a capability that is both required and relished.

Louis' tendency to communicate through stories is how he brings ideas and events to life. In the Information Age that we live in, all of us are bombarded with facts, figures, statistics and information – it is important that what is contextually-relevant sticks.

Louis' cross-country experience and tenure in the real estate valuation industry have positioned him as a very wise and thoughtful resource. Louis deeply values and respects personal relationships that have been developed and maintained within his career. With a natural tendency to communicate in a memorable manner, Louis puts all the pieces of an otherwise confusing puzzle together while ensuring the importance of relationships are preserved.

 

Shawna’s enthusiasm and positive attitude act as magnets for our clients who benefit from the value that Shawna and her team provide to their portfolio. Shawna draws her own energy from interacting with others and making new relationships in new situations.

Shawna’s expertise is in the assessment of oil and gas assets for property tax purposes. Whether in the field inspecting client facilities or in-office analysing production data and pipeline throughput volumes, Shawna and her team explore all opportunities for fair and equitable assessments for their energy clients.

Shawna’s ability to bring things to life with her expressive communication style helps to engage and maintain the attention of her audience. A thirst for information and a desire to ensure the story survives define her art of story-telling.

The mix of her outlook, positive attitude and natural ability to engage others and make them comfortable have served Shawna well in developing and maintaining a very strong and loyal client base. There is an attraction to meeting new people and sharing her well researched stories.
